RIIS's "Dirty Spoon" mobile application was awarded second place in the OakGov Challenge sponsored by AT&T and Oakland County, Michigan.
RIIS, a Michigan-based business application software developer, today announced that they have been awarded second place in the OakGov Challenge sponsored by AT&T and Oakland County, Michigan. This contest was designed to encourage those who live, work or go to school in the region to develop innovative and creative web-based or mobile applications that enhance government services for citizens.
RIIS's "Dirty Spoon" mobile application uses data from Oakland County Health Department- Environmental Health Services Food Safety unit to display violations incurred by restaurants during yearly inspections. There are two convenient ways for patrons to access information: via a map view of surrounding restaurants in the app user’s physical location, or by searching for a specific restaurant by name.
"We are very pleased to be the runner-up in this prestigious award and to provide a useful service to those dining in the Oakland County community," said Godfrey Nolan President of RIIS. "The use of mobile applications is becoming more and more commonplace. Through our ability to offer mCommerce, business and governmental mobile application development, RIIS is positioned to promote this region by offering employment opportunities to local talent and squarely position our area as a technology hub."
Utilizing iRise prototyping tools and local developers, this mobile application is one of many that RIIS is developing for their customers. "According to Pinch Analytics, only 20% of users ever return to free iPhone applications the day after they are downloaded, but through our use of prototyping we believe we can create compelling iPhone apps that users will return to again and again", Nolan said.
"These applications combined with county data not only spark innovation, but also create more opportunities for self-service and increase the transparency of government services," said Oakland County Deputy Executive and CIO Phil Bertolini.
